There are so many factors that can effect your budget when living full time on the road. I think the biggest unknown for us is mechanical costs. That being said we track our monthly spending so we can share it with you guys to help give an insight into how much it really cost to travel full time.
OK so here we are at the end of month 2 and finally able to compare our spending to last month. To be completely honest with you, this month we splurged ALOT more on accommodation and drove almost 4,000kms in a week so needless to say we most likely blew our budget. I'm a really competitive person so I was desperately trying to stay under the $3,000 mark but we quickly learnt that each month will fluctuate a lot depending on free camp options, distance driven and the remoteness as the price of fuel and food significantly increases. Our van also needed new break pads this month which set us back $315.
With that being said, I know you're all here to see EXACTLY what we spent in our second month on the road.
Food - $989.05
Petrol - $675.54
Accommodation - $511.80
Alcohol - $335.98
Car service - $315
Phone/internet - $245
Miscellaneous* - $203.88
Car rego/insurance - $172.65
Activities - $172
*miscellaneous includes; laundry, monthly subscriptions, random purchases etc.
Our TOTAL spend for June was $3,620.90
I was so surprised to see this total as I was mentally prepared to to have doubled last months budget.
We still can't seem to detour food bill down at all but you know, we gotta eat so well just work no that. Also I think we were spoilt on the east coast as we could stealth/free camp a lot more than out here int he middle of Australia. There are still plenty of free camps but when you're close by the tourist spots like Uluru and the hot springs the parks charge an arm and a leg.
We hope that this months budget breakdown helps to give you an idea of what your travels might cost. Don't forget to follow along on Instagram @life.in.olli for daily updates
