Powering our adventures

One of the most important elements of building an off grid tiny home (on wheels) is ensuring that you have the correct power set up for your needs. In this blog we tell you all about our current power set up and why we have chosen to add a Bluetti EB55 so-gen Powerbank.

Let’s chat all things power in our van. Our van is fitted with 2 x 200W solar panels on the roof that are connected to our 2x 130AH AGM batteries. This 12V system powers our lights and charging ports. We found 12V adapters or alternatives to all of our most needed appliances and have lived solely off 12V for the past 2 years.

After almost 2 years on the road we recently added the Bluetti EB 55 to our set up and its got us wondering how we ever lived without it. This little so-gen powerbank allows us to run all our 240 appliances off grid. Sure we did just fine and adapted our life to suit 12v living but let me tell you being able to wake up and make a fresh smoothie bowl by the beach or run a load of laundry in the middle of the bush is game changer.

Before we had the Bluetti EB 55 we would plan to check into a caravan park once a week or once a fortnight to do all our household chores like laundry. This little power bank allows us to live completely off grid for as long as we like.

The Bluetti EB55 has a 537Wh durable liFeP04 battery that allows you to charge up to 11 devices simultaneously in any of the following ports;

2 x 240V/700W AC OUTLETS

2 x 12V/10A DC outputs

1 x 100W USB-C port

1 x Regulated 12V/10A DC

4 x 5V/3A USB-A ports

1 x 15W wireless charging pad (for your phones)

The cool thing about the Bluetti EB55 is that we can charge it from our vans battery bank through our 12V system or we can plug portable solar panels into it and it only takes an hour to charge it back up to 80%.

As I mentioned previously our vans power bank has the ability to charge things like our phones, drones, camera etc so why do we choose to charge them with our SB55 instead? The EB55 charges our devices at a much faster rate making it a whole lot more time efficient. We also chose to add the EB55 portable Powerbank to our set up vs. installing an inverter as it allowed us the freedom and flexibility to bring power with us on day trips or picnics.

If you are looking to add some extra power to your set up and have the ability to run 240V appliances we highly recommend checking out the Bluetti range. They have a variety of different sizes so you can find the perfect fit for your next adventure.
